Cruising into the Unknown: Tips and Tricks for a Smooth First Cruise

Taking your first cruise can be an incredibly exciting experience. But it can also be quite daunting, especially if you aren't sure what to expect. That's why it is important to do your research and plan ahead to ensure that your first cruise is as sooth and stress-free as possible. Along with my expert knowledge, here are some tips and tricks that will help make your first cruise go smoothly.

Pick the right cruise line

Each cruise line has it's own personality and it is important to match that to your travel style. Are you looking for an adults only experience? Do you lie a calm or party atmosphere? Do you need a great kids' club? Do you like adventure? It is my job to know these difference and help guide you to the perfect match! When you start planning, we will have a conversation about your needs and travel style.

Research Your Destination

We provide you with as much detail as we can, but if you are a researcher, research the destinations you're visiting. Read up on the history of the place; check out attractions that are worth seeing, and look into any special events taking place during the time of your visit. This will help ensure that you maximize your time in port and know exactly where to go once you et off the ship.

Pack Strategically

When packing for a cruise, it's important to keep in mind that space is limited onboard. To maximize what little space you have, pack items in lightweight suitcases with wheels that can easily be moved around. I find it helpful to bring lightweight clothing. You will need a swimsuit or two and perhaps dressier outfits for dinner. I like to pack a few dresses for that and hubby brings one pair of dress pants or khakis and a few dress shirts to change up his dinner outfits. It is also helpful to pack a power strip so you'll have multiple outlets available when needed.

Bring Entertainment Options

Cruise ships provide plenty of entertainment options onboard-think live shows, movie screenings and more-but there may be times you want something a little quieter or something to entertain yourself by the pool. Make sure to bring books, magazines, and your tunes. A great idea is to download digital versions of these to save valuable luggage space.

Cruise Line App

Be sure to download the cruise line's app well before your trip. You will use it to do some planning of onboard activities like dining. You will also do check in through the app. It is valuable onboard for access ship maps, schedule of activities and port information. I love using the chat feature most lines offer to communicate with others onboard, such as your travel companions.

With these tips and tricks in mind, you'll be ready for a smooth sailing experience on your first cruise! Being prepared ahead of time will take much of the stress out of planning for an unfamiliar experience like cruising-and it will make sure that all you need to worry about when setting sail is having fun! By doing research on where you're going, packing strategically and smartly, and bringing entertainment options onboard with you, your first cruise is sure to be an enjoyable one! Happy cruising!!
